Alora Walcott

Alora Walcott has been a major contribution to the Humber’s women’s soccer team since she joined the team two years ago. With all of the success she has had in her first two years as a Hawk her coaches and team mates are excited to see what more she can accomplish in her three more years of eligibility as a player.
Barely making the team her first year, Walcott ended up leading the Hawks to a Provincial Championship and was named the teams Rookie of the year. Being 20 years old, and living in Toronto, Walcott decided to come to Humber to play soccer, and to figure out what she wanted to do in life through academics. She is currently in her second year for the Recreation and leisure program and is thoroughly enjoying it.
“So far my experience has been great in all aspects,” said Walcott
“The only hard part was realizing how much work it is to balance soccer and assignments-especially when it gets to a critical point in the season and for classes. Humber has helped me grow and mature as a person.”
Despite having a defensive roll as center back, Walcott has a strong impact on her team. This season she scored a goal offensively, and defensively the team only allowed eight goals against. Her elite skills and natural leadership abilities are one of the main reasons why the Hawks had yet another successful season.
“Alora is an exceptional player and great person. She leads by example on and off the field and is always smiling and willing to help when needed. She is gracious and modest but plays like she’s the biggest and strongest person on the field” said assistant coach Filomena Aprile.
This year as a player Walcott has achieved so much individually. She won player of the game in a regular season game. She was an OCAA tournament all star. Was named player of the game in the semi-final match of the Provincial Championships against Algonquin, but her most significant award this season was being named a CCAA women’s soccer All Canadian. Only three other people have won this award for Humber’s women’s soccer in the last ten years. Walcott was given this award by the OCAA based on her performance on the field and her contribution to her team. She was honored for the award this past week at the CCAA women’s soccer National Championships in Surrey, Britsh Columbia.
“I was very satisfied with the season because in the beginning I was a little skeptical about us doing well at all” Walcott said.
“We made it to OCAA’s and came home with bronze. The girls on the team made me proud. Next season we look to keep getting stronger as a team and hope to get in some good rookies to add to the great bunch we have. We are always going to work to win OCAAs no matter what so that is my goal for every season no matter who is on our team.”
Walcott has already made her mark at Humber, but her coaching staff, as well as her team mates are excited to see what else the future holds for her both on and off the field in her three remaining years of eligibility as a Humber Hawk.
